Hiking down into the big hole

Driving to the North Rim of the Grand Canyon took us closer to the Marble Canyon. One of the few viewpoints we could visit was Point Imperial, where we sat in front of Mount Hayden and had lunch. The road to Cape Royale was closed due to a controlled fire, which started in July during a thunderstorm. We didn't dare taking Blacky on the (four-Wheel drive) road to Point Sublime.

Not having too many viewpoints to drive to gave us more time for hiking. There weren't many trails either and only one of them (North Kaibab trail) was going down into the canyon. Unfortunately the trail is also used by mules and the smell is horrible at every fresh encounter. However, the scenery is amazing enough to make you forget about the smell (at least until it gets too fresh again). We hiked down only to (what I think was) Supai Tunnel, then turned back to allow (according to the canyon hiking tips) double the amount of time to get back where we started from. It took us about the same time to get back to the rim, probably because I spent way less time taking pictures.

Due to lack of other options (for example Cape Royale), we observed the sun going to bed at Bright Angel Point. It was nice, but the previous day's sunset was nicer, despite the bigger crowds. I think I understand why South Rim of the Grand Canyon has more visitors than the North Rim...

This is part of our trip to several canyons:
